Erbium Laser
If you live an active lifestyle or spend time outdoors, you are more likely to develop premature lines, wrinkles, sun spots, age spots, enlarged pores, or struggle with reddened or unevenly textured skin. Fortunately, advances in aesthetic technology have led to the development of the erbium laser – a groundbreaking system that gently resurfaces your facial skin.
An erbium laser treatment can smooth mild to moderate lines, wrinkles, remove areas of hyperpigmentation, and leave you with supple, soft, youthful skin. The best part: treatments with the erbium laser involve far less downtime than other skin resurfacing laser treatments.
What is erbium laser treatment?
Erbium laser treatment is a mild form of an ablative laser peel. The laser heats the water in the upper layers of your skin to strip away the dull, damaged cells on the surface and reveal fresh, healthy skin below. This age-defying laser treatment triggers cellular regeneration for a significant improvement in skin quality. Erbium laser therapy can:
Reduce the appearance of mild and moderate lines and wrinkles
Smooth acne scars
Tighten and firm skin that has become lax or begun to sag
Treat and remove sun damage
Enhance skin thickness and quality
Create smoother, more supple skin
Resolve uneven skin tone for a fresh, even look
What are the benefits of erbium laser treatment?
Unlike more intensive laser resurfacing treatments, the erbium laser is gentle, causing less trauma and collateral skin damage, for a faster shorter recovery time. Some of the benefits of erbium laser include:
Little downtime, with skin back to normal in as few as four or five days
Visible improvements in skin quality
Gives you a more youthful appearance

For the best results, some patients may need to use pigment suppression therapy, as well as products that will condition your skin for two weeks prior to your treatments. If you suffer from cold sores, Dr. Orlodd will prescribe a medication that prevents outbreak.
Your Erbium laser treatment will begin with an application of a transparent numbing gel that both increases patient comfort and enhances the effectiveness of the laser. Once the gel has been applied and taken effect, the laser treatment can begin. A partial treatment (such as your cheeks or forehead) may take up to 45 minutes to complete while treating the entire face and décolletage can take up to two hours. Most patients report the experience to be relatively painless, though more sensitive patients can receive additional local anesthesia to reduce any discomfort.
Following your treatment, you will need to limit sun exposure and follow the recovery regiment. Results will start to appear within the first few days after treatment, and your skin will continue to improve over the following weeks as your skin regenerates.
Am I a candidate?
Because erbium laser is gentle, it is safe for virtually any skin tone and skin type. The only exception are patients who suffer from pre-existing medical conditions that could slow healing or patients who are on specific medications, women who are pregnant, and some other conditions.
Recovery after erbium laser treatment
After treatment, your skin may be slightly reddened, and you may experience swelling and mild discomfort as your skin heals. Cooling and soothing gels can be used to assist the healing process and ease discomfort. We recommend giving yourself a full week to recover, but many patients are back to normal within four to five days, and ready to return to work or play.
