Microparticles of PLLA are suspended in a gel formula, injected into areas of the face that have lost the resilient quality of youth. How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra works differently than other fillers. It is made of a synthetic material that is biocompatible and biodegradable, PLLA. Over time, the skin stops producing the same quantity of collagen, and the aging fibers become weaker, leading to looser, saggy skin. Sculptra is injected into the deeper layer of your skin, the area in which collagen fibers provide support. As natural collagen production is triggered by the PLLA, your skin becomes firmer and more resilient, in the most natural way.

What is PLLA?

PLLA has long been used in the production of dissolvable sutures, and in the field of aesthetics, is used to stimulate increased natural collagen production. As you age, your skin loses about one percent of your natural collagen per year, and by the forties or fifties, you will see the signs of age clearly visible. What Does the Treatment Feel Like?

You will feel the sensation of the injections, but this feels more like pressure than pain, and is completely normal.

How many treatments do you need?

Most people achieve optimal results with a series of three treatments with Sculptra. You have unique skin issues, and with a personal consultation, we can advise you what will produce the best results for you.

How long does Sculptra last?

One of the beauties of Sculptra is that the results last for two to three years before retreatment is needed.

What is the recovery time?

You may experience swelling or bruising at the injection sites, which will fade within days, or up to a week. There is no real recovery time, although the numbing effect will require a few hours to disappear. You are free to return to your typical day and should not experience any significant side effects.

When will I see the full results?

The full results of your Sculptra injections are slow and steady, as your skin produces more collagen. You should see a visible difference in your skin quality within about six weeks, which continues to improve in the weeks and months ahead, with maximum improvement achieved at about the six-month mark.
