Breast lift surgery, mastopexy, is a procedure that removes excess skin while tightening and lifting the breast creating a new and more youthful shape. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, changes in weight, aging, and gravity can impact the shape of the breast causing it to loose firmness and youthful shape. Breast lift surgery can help reverse these changes.
Who is a good candidate?
If you are healthy and your weight is stable. If your nipples and areolas point downward or fall bellow the crease line when your breasts are unsupported. If one breast is lower than the other breast lift surgery can help even them. If you have stretched skin or areolas and if you are bothered by the feeling that your breasts sag or have lost their shape.
Preparing for surgery
You will meet with Dr. Orloff and he will review your medical condition, allergies, and treatments. If you are over 40-years old you will need to undergo a mammogram in addition to preoperative laboratory work. Dr. Orloff will discuss all your options with you and describe the surgery to you along with the likely outcome and scar location. He will also advise you on which medication and supplements to use before and after your surgery to optimize your outcome.
Where is my surgery performed?
Your surgery will be performed in our fully accredited surgical center located adjacent to Dr. Orloff’s office. Sometimes due to your medical condition your procedure will need to be performed at a hospital. Dr. Orloff and his staff will discuss this prior to your surgery.
What is the recovery like?
Dr. Orloff uses medication before and during the procedure to ease your discomfort post operatively. As you are recovering from anesthesia our nurses will be with you making sure you are comfortable. Typically patients do not need prescription pain medication for more than 1 or 2 days after the operation is completed. You may feel a bit tired in the beginning, but very soon you will regain your strength and return to your usual activities.
