Q: Am I a good candidate for Breast Augmentation?

A: Generally, most healthy women are candidates for breast augmentation surgery. Age is not a contraindication to breast implant surgery, and it is not uncommon for women in their 50’s or later to undergo the procedure. Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Orloff. If you’re physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.

Q: How is the Breast Augmentation Procedure performed?

A: There are several approaches. A very popular approach is through a small incision around the lower areola. A small opening is made and a pocket for the implant is developed under the breast tissue. The implant is placed inside the pocket. The opening is then closed using small sutures. This approach allows the incision to heal so well that in most cases one cannot identify the healed scar. Another way is through an incision on the lower breast or through the armpit. When you meet with Dr. Orloff you can decide together which approach would best suit your body shape.

Q:  What is BETTER, silicone or saline breast implants?

A: Both saline and silicone breast implants have their advantages and disadvantages. Most women with good breast skin quality and adequate breast tissue are good candidates for saline breast implants. Saline implants may be less expensive than silicone breast implants

Generally, silicone implants are for women with thin soft tissue coverage, poor skin quality, or for those where price is less of a factor. Silicone implants have a more natural feel to them and have less rippling or wrinkling.

Dr. Orloff will explain in depth the differences during your initial consultation.

Q: What do I need to do to prepare for my Breast Augmentation surgery?

Q: How long is the recovery process?

A: Breast augmentation recovery typically requires that patients minimize physical activity for least 7-14 days before slowly resuming more strenuous tasks. The amount of downtime required, and the amount of time needed to make a full recovery that allows you to resume all normal activity, is largely dependent upon where the incision was placed & the size of the implant.

Q: What are the risks of Breast Augmentation surgery?

A: A small amount of risk is always associated with any surgical procedure. Most patients have very low risk of complications from Breast Augmentation Surgery. Dr. Orloff will discuss all possible risks with during your consultation.
